Finally all the pieces came together. Some weeks ago I took a nice old box with PentiumII-450 with a 9GB Fast SCSI disc, silenced it and started to install gentoo linux from the scratch. After weeks of quite smooth compilation and configuration, I finally have a rock solid gateway and server connected to my dsl line, running apache2, php, mySql, and of course, wordpress. The next steps will be to deploy mediawiki, and maybe I will go for a decent mail infrastructure later. So far I feel really comfortable with gentoo; I have never felt so much beeing in the driver seat before. I have seen and edited all important config files, and I never reached a dead end so far, everything is almost glitch free and feels rock solid. I like it.
